Get Well Soon

I was for about four days in the hospital, in the hyperacute unit. After that, they moved me to a closer hospital that had a specialised ward. I like to joke that I was then told I was "stroke-freeā€; to be honest, I didn’t understand clearly what they meant.

At that time, I was unfreezing. I was a marble sculpture and I was waiting to be carved. Each day, I was sculpting one more phalange, one more phalange.

I heard ā€œGet well soonā€ a lot. Of course, it’s common politeness for people to say. But really, what does it mean? People say ā€œget well soonā€ when you have a cold, wishing you a swift return to health. But I was told I was ā€œstroke-freeā€.

But I was talking (slowly). Walking (slowly). Thinking (slowly). I was alive. I was healthy, by that point. It wasn’t anymore a wish to get back to health. What were they wishing me?

Was it healing they meant? At what point is there enough healing to call it done?

I’ve been told that the brain can ā€œhealā€ for as long as two years after a stroke.

Well then,

Can I say I’m healed on the 8th of March 2027?
